fear of code

I write backend services, mostly in Go, and I keep notes here when something takes me longer than it should have. The recurring theme is that the surprising part is almost never the algorithm — it is the layer underneath that I assumed was boring.

Most of these started as a comment in a pull request that grew too long to leave there.
